Filipa Queirós

[Collaborator]

Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra, with a PhD in Sociology. Her work draws on Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Surveillance Studies to explore how science and technology shape practices of surveillance and social control. In the fAIces project, she examines facial recognition technologies from both a top-down perspective, focusing on law enforcement uses and their implications for suspicion and racial discrimination, and a bottom-up perspective, looking at citizen-led deployments as forms of counter-surveillance and accountability. Her research interrogates how these technologies reconfigure justice and security while raising questions for democracy and civil rights.
